BV Town Party

Celebrate the beginning of summertime fun here in Buena Vista with your friends and family at the BV Town Party, Friday May 24th from 4-10 pm. Come down to The Beach at South Main and relax with a cold beverage from Colorado's top libation producers, eat great local food, let your kids play in the hampster wheels or bouldering park, watch the best athletes in the world compete in the BV Kayak Rodeo Pro Qualifiers on the Arkansas River, and listen to some great music at the BV Town Party! Featuring Live Music by The Deer.

Live Music at South Main

Live music in the lawn at South Main is a great time to spend with your family dancing in the open air! A fun location with bouldering rocks, grassy lawns, delicious food, and kids activities it is the perfect evening activity for families.

Flatwater Demo Center

Saturday, May 25th and Sunday, May 26th @ 12:00pm

Check out the latest and the greatest 2019 paddling gear in Buena Vista’s McPhelemy Park Town Pond. Kayaks, SUPs, Duckies, paddles, PFDs and more will be available for the public- kids & adults- to try out all the latest gear and have fun on the pond. After 15 minutes, participants must return gear, and are welcome to get back in line for another chance to try out some great demo gear from the best companies around. Take all the time you want to chat with company representatives about what gear is right for you!

This is an all ages event and is open to the public.  Anyone under 18 years old must be be accompanied by an adult the whole time.

Whitewater Demos + Vendor Village

Friday, May 24th, Saturday, May 25th, and  Sunday, May 26th

Eat, shop, and have some fun! Check out all the the vendors and whitewater sponsors of Paddlefest 2019. Vendors feature art, crafts, and merchandise from unique and locally made artisans. Also check out 2019’s newest fleet of boats and boards from all the best brands in the whitewater industry. Boats, Boards and other gear will be available to take down to the Buena Vista Whitewater Park and try on whitewater and in the play park.


Companies will only demo gear to experienced whitewater paddlers. You will need all other essential whitewater gear to be able to demo. Parents of anyone under 18 years old must be present.

 

Kids Fun Slalom Course

Sunday, May 26th @ 10:00am

The perfect opportunity for your kids to try out kayaking or stand-up paddling. RMOC staff  will be on water at all times for safety and to teach basic skills. Kids can participate in a fun kayak and SUP course around buoys. Bring your talent and your friends to compete or just try the slalom course for fun.

Open Bouldering Competitions @ BV Rocks/Peak Fitness

Sunday, May 26th @ 12:00

The Peak Fitness bouldering competition will be an open event. The scoring categories will consist of beginner, intermediate, and advanced for both male and female. Beginners should be able to climb V1 to compete. Adult climbers will have 30 minutes to complete as many routes as possible. There will be 45 minutes of climbing specific games for kids.

Family Float to the Grill with Team Jackson and Friends

Meet at Wilderness Aware Rafting (in Johnson's Village) to do a fun informal practice lap to hone in your skills for Race to the Grill. Put in at Wilderness Aware and take out at River Runners Grill. Shuttle will not be provided.

Race to the Grill

The River Runners’ “Race to the Grill” is a fun, downriver sprint through the infamous Milk Run (family float section) of the Arkansas River. The race is open to any craft- Kayak, Ducky or SUP.  The race is a one at a time time-trial release down this Class 2+ section of whitewater, beginning at Wilderness Aware and ending at River Runners Grill for an afternoon of relaxation on the sandy beaches of the Arkansas River. Cold beverages and hot tacos will be waiting for you at the River Runners Riverside Grill, just across the the river from the Fisherman’s Bridge boat ramp.
Come out and participate in this fun-filled event! Jr. racers may need to be accompanied by an adult. You will need to be comfortable and experienced in Class 2 + whitewater and have the gear to accompany.
Cost: $10 per racer

 

Family Nature Hike with GARNA and Mountain MeetUp

Saturday, May 26th @ 9:30am

Join GARNA and Mountain MeetUp for a family hike on the Barbara Whipple Trails.  GARNA will provide interpretive stops to learn about the river, plants, and wildlife habitat along the first ¾ mile of the hike.  If you or your family wants to keep exploring, continue the hike at your own pace or with other families!
This hike is open to all ages and experience levels.
